How are local government doing in our area?

Not particularly well is the short answer. Despite a campaign by regional Green Parties, North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) has so far failed to declare a climate emergency. Local authority plans for dealing with climate change have been evaluated.

You can find the results for North Yorkshire here. The overall figures is pretty average, but looking at the details, the low scores tend to be for the more practical questions.

Ryedale District Council gets a much lower score, although there are some signs locally of efforts being made. And the council will cease to exist in just over a year, as everything is taken over by a new unitary NYCC.

Malton Town Council is working hard to produce an environment and climate policy. More on this when it has been agreed.
